Yeovil Town HistoryYeovil dates back to Roman time, with Fosse way passing thru. Yeovil is now remembered for the Gloving and Aircraft production. There is a Roman Site at Lufton The Quedam Centre Yeovil
|
One of the main Gloving land marks is Foundry house, an old gloving factory on Stars Lane which is now under redevelopment. The development of the Foundry house site is covered within the "Yeovil Vision".
The Railways arrived in Yeovil in 1853 and at the height had 3 stations making Yeovil a major interchange for the South coast. The main station was in the town centre (now a cinema). The old bridges and alignment are still obvious and now forms a path from Lysander road to Penn Mill station and Sherbourne road. (do you have a picture of the Town station)
